Black Power Pathways (formerly A Pathway To Hope) was formed in 2020 by Xuli Grandstaff and Shayna Clayton as a way to provide resources, housing support and entrepreneurial skills to people in Thurston County rebuilding their lives after incarceration. Understanding that the social inequities that cause marginalization also exist within so many social service systems, our organization shifted our approach to focus our efforts on reaching those who are often underserved by current systems. We believe that prioritizing the needs of those most impacted by structural injustice and inequity has a ripple effect that creates more equity for everyone.

Our strategies are two fold:

Resourcing people most impacted by systemic inequity so that they can achieve stability and empowerment to make the changes they need for their own lives.

AND

Shifting the culture of current service systems through education and coalition building, so that existing systems are more effective at addressing intersectional needs.
